Media NotesVictor R. Carlson was born November 11, 1927, to John and Martha (Roe) Carlson. He was raised on the family farm north of Horace, ND. In 1950, he entered the service and served during the Korean War. Upon his discharge in 1954, he began working for Edling Electric in Moorhead, MN. Victor continued to work there for twenty-nine years.

While serving as Fire Chief for the volunteer Horace Fire Dept., Victor suffered an injury that ended his career as an electrician. He then worked for Dakota Hospital for seven years before retiring in 1992.

On February 14, 1959, Victor married the love of his life, Josephine Bourcy. Together they raised six children in Horace. Josephine passed away in 1979, after battling cancer. Victor continued to live in Horace until early 2010, when he moved to Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN. He passed away in Bethany Retirement Living on Monday, September 20, 2010, at the age of 82.

Victor was Fire Chief and a member of the Horace Fire Dept. for forty-six years. He was also a lifetime member of the ND Fireman’s Association and Disabled American Veterans, charter member of the Horace Lions Club, and a long time member of Horace Lutheran Church.

Vic enjoyed his daily stop to chat with his friends over a cup of coffee at the gas station. He was very passionate about the Fire Dept. but always enjoyed the visits from his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids the best.

He is survived by his six children, Gary (Arlene) Carlson, Horace, Greg Carlson, Fargo, Ken (Tammy) Carlson, Sheridan, WY, Cindy (Wayne) Wateland, Fargo, David (Jeanne) Carlson, New Castle, CO, and Vicki (Karl) Moseng, Minot, ND; two brothers, John Carlson, Prescott, AZ, and Alvin Carlson, Borup, MN; two sisters, Esther (Marlin) Kusler, Kulm, ND, and Florence (Doug) Flodstrom, Clearbrook, MN; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Carlson, Longmont, CO; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
